It is pronounced as  Kee-wanis.


"Kiwanis" was coined from an American Indian expression, "Nunc Kee-wanis," which means, "We trade".  Over time it became into the Internal Service Organization to serve the children of the world.


1915 Detroit, Michigan, United States, by a group of businessmen and in 1916 became an international organization when   Kiwanis Club of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada was formed.  


 - 211,256 adult members making up 8,386 adult clubs. 

- 326,574 youth members making up  8,268 youth clubs. 

- Across 85 Countries. 


 Kiwanis has a minimum age requirement of 18 years old. But The Kiwanis Family is made up of a verity of clubs:

- Kiwanis (adults)

- Aktion Club (adults with disablities)

- Circle K (college and university students)

- Key Club (high school students 14 - 18 years old)

- Builders Club (middle school students  11 - 14 years old)

- K-Kids (elementary school students 6 - 11 years old)
